Holidays to Ghana
Ghana, at any time of year, is amazing. The people are wonderful and there’s a huge variety of things to do. For nature lovers there are safari treks and surfing or you can tackle the forest canopy walkway at Kakum. For culture travelers, the arts scene, from crafts and painting to music and dance is brilliant. And history abounds in Ashanti country and in slave forts all along Ghana‘s coast.
I kid you not, Ghana is all of these things, and it’s one of the safest and most stable African countries. The fact that most people speak English in addition to their local languages makes this one of the best, and easiest, African countries to travel to.
February is an excellent time for holidays to Ghana. While the near-perfect weather doesn’t vary much, this time of year is a bit cooler and less humid and there’s very little rain.
It’s that lack of rain that creates ideal wildlife viewing conditions, especially at Mole National park and the Wechiau Hippo Sanctuary in Northern Ghana.
At Mole, the dry season encourages more animals to seek out the watering hole that can be seen from Mole Motel. There will be elephants, baboons, warthogs and crocodiles as well as several variety of antelope. You can also take a ranger trek by truck, or on foot, to the watering hole for an up-close view.
At the Weichiau Hippo sanctuary, the February dry season means you’ll be able to go out safely in a canoe and be able to see more than just their eyes and tops of their ears.
Need a fun adventure adventure break from the winter cold? Take your holidays in Ghana. You won’t regret it.

Holidays To South Africa
Although South Africa may be a long way to go for hot weather holidays in February, you don’t experience jet lag because there is no time zone difference with London. Plus, there are lots of direct flights to Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town. In terms of hot places to travel in February, you can choose between a city break, a wine tour, a safari or a beach holiday – or a mix and match of these options.
The Garden Route, South Africa
Situated along the south-eastern coast of South Africa, the Garden Route is a splendid place for some time in the sun. February’s summer climate along the Garden Route South Africa is mild compared to the rest of the country, with temperatures rarely going over 83°F.
This means enjoyable days outside, without any uncomfortable heat. The region sees rain all year round, but it’s often short, warm showers in summer, and barely enough to ruin a vacation.
The towns along the 186-mile stretch boast stunning beaches, relaxing lagoons, and even lush forests. Activities along this coastal paradise range from snorkeling and boat rides to skydiving and white river rafting. There’s something for everyone here, whether you’re an adventure junky or prefer quieter experiences.

Durban or Johannesburg and Safari
February in Johannesburg falls in the summer season which is warm (and a bit wet). The average daytime temperature is 26 C (78 F).
There are plenty of things to do in Johannesburg which is South Africa’s largest city. Must-visit place are the amazing Apartheid Museum and Constitutional Hill (where Gandhi was imprisoned). Johannesburg also has a great restaurant and foodie scene. You may just want to hang out at the hotel pool or go see sites outside of Johannesburg.
Near Johannesburg there are several interesting sites. For example, you can visit the township of Soweto or Lesedi Cultural Village to learn more about Africa. The Cradle of Humankind in Maropeng is a fascinating look at early mankind.
You can even take a day trip to Pilanesburg for a safari. If you have more time, definitely drive the scenic Panorama Route and visit Kruger National Park for a couple of days of safari that you will never forget.
If you are looking for hot holidays in February you can’t beat Durban. The city is hot and humid in February with average daytime temperatures of 28 C (82 F) and an average of 7 hours of sunshine. With its miles of golden sand coastline, Durban is one of the best beach holidays in February you can pick.
There are plenty of activities to do in Durban such as enjoying its fantastic Indian food. Venture a little further along the Elephant Coast though and you will find more beautiful beaches as well as wetlands that offer safari possibilities. The free roaming elephants that characterised this area (and gave the area its name) have disappeared except in the national parks of Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park and the iSimangaliso Wetland Park.
