A part of the south east Greek coast of the Peloponnese region of mainland Grece, Costa Navarinio is a serene and environmentally friendly place. The main attraction of the Costa Navarino is the Westin Resort.
The Westin Resort is built around keeping the town of Costa Navarino running, by giving many locals a chance at working for the resort itself.
They also prioritise the wildlife of their local surroundings by protecting the turtles that come to nest on their shores from late May to early October.
After our visit to Nafplio we took a rented car in order to arrive at the Westin Resort Costa Navarino. If we were coming straight from Athens, the trip would have taken about 3 hours.
A cheaper but longer option is taking a bus from Greece’s capital city of Athens. The Costa Navarino to Athens bus costs around 40 to 50 euros per person for a 7 and a ½ hour drive time.
In my opinion an even better option would be to take a flight to Kalamata airport, the closest airport to Costa Navarino, from Athens. A taxi to the resort from Kalamata Airport will take about 45 minutes.
The weather during late July was very warm with highs of up to 37C.
It would definitely be a must to bring good protection against the heat of the Greek sun whilst lounging on the beach, as well as bringing light clothes to cover up throughout the day and water in order to avoid getting easily dehydrated.
Luckily, we stayed at the Westin Resort in Costa Navarino which had plenty of facilities we could use to cool down, including a private beach and a swimming pools.
The staff were very diligent at making sure we always had water. Even if you don’t happen to be able to visit the resort there are many beaches close by along the southern coast.
The Costa Navarino Westin resort is a gem for those wishing for a relaxing yet entertaining experience.
This is made possible by what seems to be an endless amount of activities which vary from a Bayern Munich football training camp to a massage in a world-class spa.
This resort holds two five-star hotels from the Marriott group – the Romanos, a Luxury Collection hotel and the Westin Costa Navarino.
You could also go to Area 61 which has bowling, karaoke, virtual reality laser tag, water park, playground and even a DJ, making it very suitable for parties, family days and dates.
The overall layout and numerous options of this resort makes it an attractive choice for people of all ages and interests because there are activities suitable for the young and old, families as well as couples.
So of course there must be enough food and a variety of different flavours so guests can feel replenished after a full day of exciting activities. The restaurants offer everything from simple foods such as kebabs and burgers, to Asian, Italian and Greek cuisine, for you explorative eaters.
Not to forget the cooling and refreshingly sweet ice cream shop which is a must try!
What else is there to do nearby?
Costa Navarino is the home of the Westin Resort but there are other things you could do other than staying within the walls of the resort.
You could visit the Romanos Beach and the Sphaktiria Beach, which are around a 10 min drive each of the Westin Resort, and will ensure you a chill day at the beach.
If you are an archaeological or history nerd like I am, then you could visit the Mycenaean Palace of Nestor, who was the King of Pylos, which can only take 13 minutes by car to get there.
All of these sites are a breeze to get to due to the Westin Resort having regular taxis waiting for you.
